Migration considerations

If you're considering switching, here's the practical reality:

• Free subscribers migrate cleanly between either platform via CSV export. No major friction.
• Paid subscribers require Stripe re-authorization on the new platform. Both platforms support this but you'll lose some subscribers in the transition — typical churn is 10–25% on migration.
• URL preservation matters for SEO. If you have ranking content on Substack and switch to Beehiiv with a different URL structure, you need 301 redirects. Substack supports redirects from your old URLs only if you keep paying for the custom domain.
• Notes / Substack network goes away when you leave Substack. This is the largest non-monetary cost of migrating off Substack.
• Beehiiv → Substack migration is rare. Substack → Beehiiv is the standard direction at scale.
